Web Design for Usability

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

You may have notice we’ve been moving things around our site.  When we started Toolulu last year, we had no idea what kind of response we would receive and our objectives were broad.  We want to continue to maintain our web presence through blogging and other social media (that is what we do, after all) but we know that the majority of our clients don’t yet interact online in the same way that we do.  The blog is now a secondary component of our site yet will continue to be updated regularly.  Our web presence is now focused on the “what” of our business and less on the “why”.

Google Analytics for Beginners

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Google Analytics is the most widely used web based analytics around.  Setting it up on your website is an easy (and FREE) way to keep tabs on your site statistics.  If you’re on a Wordpress blog, there is a plugin that you can use to put the code into your site.  Because of its ease of use, it has become an essential tool for serious (or curious) bloggers and marketers.

Press Releases

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Just like everything else, press releases are evolving.  I went to school for a degree in public relations about 10 years ago, I was taught to put ### at the bottom of every press release.  So 2000, right?!  Things move so fast in the world today, that it’s going to take a lot more than just 3-4 paragraphs on a page with ### at the bottom to make your press release a success. Awesome Camp Recap

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Can we tell you how much we loved Awesome Camp this weekend?  It was freaking amazing!  Now that we’ve had a chance to come up for air, here’s what we remember most from Awesome Camp:

  • It was truly awesome… and better than we expected.  We really wanted it to be a building of relationships and learning from one another.  And this is exactly what it was.
  • There were so many great sessions.  So many.  I couldn’t believe all the local talent that showed up.

crafty con girls with David from the UK

Have we mentioned that we spent several days in California at the Craft & Hobby Trade Show?  Okay, we did.  It was there that we launched Toolulu’s big project…CraftyCon.  You can see all of us letting off some steam with a new friend (David from the UK).

We’ve been on such a high for the past couple of weeks and it all culminated on Saturday with Awesome Camp.  It was such a great time and I think all those in attendance were able to take away some great information.  We tried to fill in a couple of gaps during the schedule so Deb and I spoke twice.  One talk was on “Thinking Big”.  The other was titled, “What the Blog?”.  There were some great talks on YouTube, Twitter, branding, photography, and even wind energy!

So, what’s next?  No matter how much we try to keep our calendars clear for a while, that just doesn’t seem to last too long.  Deb is speaking at the Mom 2.0 Summit towards the end of the month and we have meetings set up with new clients (and current) throughout the month.

What do you all do to get rested and rejuvenated?  How do you stay fresh and on top of things?  Or, do you?  What’s the secret?
